Gorean
Slaves differ in many ways, each serving a different purpose, each
having unique qualities then another. Some are used for pleasure, some
for work, some for cooking and some merely to look at. Depending on the
preference of the Master and his use of a slave, girls are sought out
for different reasons. Luckily for Masters wishing a particular slave,
there is a vast variety to choose from. Certain slaves are only good
for one thing, however, slaves can be taught.
'I assume all human Goreans are of Earth origin,' I said.
'I mean,' she said, 'like me, a girl born and raised on Earth, and then brought to Gor as a slave.'
'Statistically,' I said, 'surely few. How many I would not know.'
'Ten,' she asked, 'twenty?'
'Perhaps
some four or five thousand,' I said. 'I would not know.' Such a number,
I conjectured, would not even be missed in a population which teemed
like that of Earth."
Beasts of Gor, page 247
"Soon
she ws gasping. She was an Earth girl. She was not in the condition of
the Gorean slave girl, with her almost perfect diet, imposed by masters,
her muscles toned by a regime of exercises, her legs and wind toughened
by long hours of training in sensuous dance."
Beasts of Gor, page 407
"
'You excite me, Master,' she said. 'Does that horrify you? Does that
scandalize you? Does it startle and discomfort you, does it so dismay
you, does it seem so hard to comprehend, that a woman from Earth could
be sexually excited, that she could have sexual desires, that she could
feel helpless and frustrating passion, that she could beg even to be
sexually satisfied?'
'It is not typical,' I said. 'And it is not permitted.'
'It is typical!' she said. 'How little you know of women! And on Gor it is permitted--to slaves!' I did not speak.
'On
Gor,' she said, 'I have experienced feelings and sensations I never
knew could exist. Inhibitions have been shattered, some of them
commanded from me by strong men and the blows of the whip, I have
learned to live and to feel. My emotions have been freed. My deepest
sexuality and nature have on this world at last been fully liberated. I
have found myself. I love and I serve. I now know at last what and who I
am, a love slave for uncompromising masters.' "

the toweling Nela wore nothing; about her neck, rather than a common
slave collar, she like the other bath girls, wore a chain and plate. On
her plate was the legend: I am Nela of the Capacian Baths. Pool of Blue
Flowers. I cost one tarsk. Nela was an expensive girl, thought there
were pools where the girls cost as much as a silver tarn disk. The tarsk
is a silver coin, worth forty copper tarn disks. All the girls in the
Pool of Blue Flowers cost the same, except novices in training who would
go for ten or fifteen copper tarn disks. There were dozens of pools in
the vast, spreading Capacian Baths. In some of the larger pools the
girls went as cheaply as one copper tarn disk. For the fee one was
entitled to use the girl as he wished for as long as he wished, his use
of course, limited by the hours of the pool’s closing. The first time I
had seen Nela, several days ago, she had been playing in the pool alone,
rolling about. It took but one glance and I dove into the water swam to
her, seized her by the ankle and dragged her under, kissing her,
rolling about beneath the surface. I liked the lips and feel of her and
when we broke surface, she and I laughing, I asked her how much she went
for. “For a tarsk,”she laughed, and turned about, looking at me, “but
you will have to catch me first.” I knew this game of the bath girls, as
though they, mere slaves, would dare to truly flee from one who pursued
them, and I laughed, and she, too, sensing my understanding, laughed.
The girl commonly pretends to swim away but is outdistanced and
captured. I knew that few men could, if a bath girl did not wish it,
come close to them in the water. They spend much of the day in the water
and , it is said, are more at ease in that element than the Cosian song
fish.
Assassins of Gor, pages 158 - 166...
...The
pools were beautiful, and yet I knew that somewhere, chained in
darkness, were gangs of male slaves who cleaned them each night; and
there were of course the Bath Girls of Ar, of which Nela was one, said
to be the most beautiful of all Gor. Harold, as a boy, had once been a
slave in the baths, those of the city of Turia, before he had escaped.
He had told me that sometimes a Bath Girl, to discipline her, is thrown
to the slaves in the darkness. I held Nela a bit more closely to me, and
she looked at me, puzzled.

...The
girls in the deck cages are permitted to keep their hair. The hair of
the below-deck girls, mercifully, is shaved off; indeed, our body hair,
too, was shaved off, completely. These precautions prevent, to a great
extent, the nesting of ship lice...

women cried out in misery. To enter the circle, if one is a female, is,
by the laws of Torvaldsland, to declare oneself a bond-maid. A woman,
of course, need not enter the circle of her own free will. She may, for
example, be thrown within it, naked and bound. Howsoever she enters the
circle, voluntarily or by force, free or secured, she emerges from it,
by the laws of Torvaldsland, as a bond-maid."
Marauders of Gor, page 44
"I
saw people running down the sloping green land, toward the water.
Several came form within the palisade. Among them, white kirtled,
collared, excited, ran bond-maids. These, upon the arrival of their
Master are permitted to greet him. The men of the north enjoy the bright
eyes, the leaping bodies, the squealing, the greetings of their
bond-bond maids. In the fields I saw an overseer, clad in scarlet, with a
gesture of his hand, releasing the thralls. Then, they, too, ran down
toward the water."
Marauders of Gor, pages 82 - 83
remembered, too, the girls in the last tavern, if it was a tavern,
lascivious in their dancing silks, pleasure slaves bred like animals for
passion. If there were natural slaves and natural free men, as the
Older Tarl had insisted, those girls were natural slaves. It was
impossible to conceive of them as other than they had been..."
"Watching
us was a woman in Pleasure Silk, of remarkable beauty, yet with a
certain subtle hardness and contempt about her. She wore a yellow
collar, that of the House of Cernus, and yellow Pleasure Silk. The slave
bells, a double row, were locked on her left ankle. About her throat
there hung a slave whistle. From her right hand, looped about the wrist,
there dangled a slave goad. She was fairly complected but had extremely
dark hair and dark eyes, very red lips; the movement of her exquisite
body was a torment to observe; she looked at me with a slight smile,
regarding the black of the tunic, the mark of the dagger; her lips were
full and magnificiently turned, probably a characteristic bred into her;
I had no doubt this black-haired, cruelly beautiful woman was a bred
Passion Slave. She was one of the most rawly sensuous creatures on which
I had ever looked.
'I am Sura,' she said, looking at me, 'I teach girls to give pleasure to men.'"
Assassin of Gor, page 150
"Most
Gorean slave girls are comely, or beautiful. This is easy to
understand. It is almost always the better looking women who are taken
for slaves, and, of course, in breeding slaves, it is commonly only the
most beautful of female slaves who are used, these usually being
crossed, hooded, with handsome male silk slaves, also hooded. The female
offspring of these matings needless to say, are often exquisite....
.....
Some female slaves, incidentally, have a pedigreed lineage going back
through several generations of slave matings, and their masters hold the
papers to prove this. It is a felmony in Gorean law to forge or falsify
such papers....... In the case of the bred female slave, of course, she
has been legally and literally, in anyone's understanding, bred to the
collar, and in a full commercial and economic sense, as a business
speculation on the part of masters. The features most often selected for
by the breeders are beauty and passion opposed to the pseudomasculine
type of intelligence often found in women with large amounts of male
hormones, is commonly linked, apparently genetically, with these two
hitherto mentioned properties."

Ho-Hak's
right ear twitched. His ears were ususual, very large, and with
extremely long lower lobes, drawn lower still by small, heavy pendants
set in them. He had been a slave, doubtless, and doubtless, judging by
the collar, and the large hands and broad back, had served on the
galleys, but he had been an unusual slave, a bred exotic, doubtless
originally intended by the slave maters for a destiny higher than that
of the galley bench.
There
are various types of "exotics" bred by Gorean slavers, all of whom are
to be distinguished from more normal varieties of bred slaves, such as a
Passion Slaves and Draft Slaves. Exotics may be bred for almost any
purpose, and some of these purposes, unfortunately, seem to be little
more than to produce quaint or unusual specimens. Ho-Hak may well have
been one so bred.
"You are an exotic," I said to him.
Ho-Hak's
ears leaned forward toward me, but he did not seem angry. He had brown
hair, and brown eyes; the hair, long, was tied behind his head with a
string of rence cloth. He wore a sleeveless tunic of rence cloth, like most of the rence growers. "Yes," said Ho-Hak. "I was bred for a collector."

I had expected about her white throat there was fastened, graceful and
gleaming, the slender, close-fitting collar of a Gorean slave girl.
It was a collar ike most others, of steel, secured with a small, heavy lock which closed behind the girl's neck.
'You see', said the girl, 'I did not lie to you.'
'Your demeanor,' I said, 'does not suggest that of a slave girl.'
She rose to her feet and backed away, her hands at the shoulders of her robe.
'Nonetheless,' she said, 'I am a slave girl.' She turned away, 'Do you wish to see my brand?' she asked, comtemptuously.
'No,' I said.
So she was a slave girl.
But
on her collar there was not written the name of her owner and his city,
as I would have expected. Instead I had read there only the Gorean
numeral which would correspond to '708'.
'You may do with me what you please' said the girl, turning to face me. 'as long as you are in this room I belong to you.'
'I don't understand,' I said.
'I am a Chamber Slave,' she said.
'I don't understand,' I said.
'It means,' she said, irritably, 'that I am confined to this room, and that I am the slave of whoever enters the room.'
'But surely you can leave,' I said.
I gestured to the massive portal which, empty of the door or gate, led only too clearly into the corridor beyond.
'No,'
she said bitterly, 'I cannot leave.' I arose and walked through the
portal and found myself in a long stone passageway beyond it which
stretched as far as I could see in either direction. It was lit with
energy bulbs.
She ran to the far wall and crouched against the it, 'No,' she cried.
I
gathered her in my arms and she fought like a she-larl, screaming, I
wanted to convince her that there was no danger, that her fears were
groundless. Her fingernails clawed across my face.
I was angered and I swept from her feet so she was helpless in my arms.
I began to carry her toward the portal.
'Please.' she whispered, her voice hoarse with terror. 'Please, Master, no, no, Master!.'
She sounded so piteous that I abandoned my plan and released her, though I was irritated by her fear.
She
collapsed at my feet, shaking and whimpering, and put her head to my
knee. 'Look!,' she said, pointing to the great threshold.
I looked
but I saw nothing other then the stone sides of the portal and on each
side three rounded red domes, of perhaps four inches width apiece.
'They are harmless,' I said, for I had passed them with safety. To demonstate this I again left the chamber.
Outsife
the chamber, carved over the portal, I saw something I had not noted
before. In Gorean notation, the numeral '708' was carved above the door.
I now understood the meaning of the numeral on the girl's collar. I
re-entered the chamber. 'You see, I said, 'they are harmless.'
'For you,' she said, 'not for me.'
'Why not,' I asked.
'There,' she said, pointing to the small rounded domes set in the sides of the portal.
'I don't understand,' I said.
She
moved from my arms and approached the portal. When she was within
perhaps a yard of the exit the small red domes began to glow."
Priest Kings of Gor, pages 35 - 39
unwrapped then the object from the silk on the table. There was the
sound of the metal clapper in the narrow, flattish, triangular shaped
bell, the rustle of the chain and lock, the sound of the small,
metal, sturdy, rectangular, locked coin box. I dangled the chain, the
girl bell and the coin box before her eyes.
'Do you know what this is?' I asked her.
'Yes, Master,' she whispered, frightened.
'Excellant,'
said Tasdryon, 'excellant,' and he rose from the table, letting himself
out of the room with a key, by means of a side door, one which led up a
flight of stairs, presumably to private compartments. He locked the
door behind him. He would return shortly with the keys to her bells and
collar.
'Stand. Slave,' I said.
Peggy stood, beautifully.
Tasdron
crouched beside her left ankle and with his key, removed the slave
bells from her left ankle. Such bells are seldom put on by the slave or
removed by the slave. Almost always they are put on or removed by one
who is in authority over the slave. The girl seldom puts them on or
removes them rather it is hers to wear them, and as a slave, for as long
or briefly as masters see fit.
I then, not hurrying, lifted the
heavy chain, with its bell and box, about the girl's neck. I stood
behind her. I then, not yet dropping the chain about her neck, but
holding it about her neck, closed the lock. She shuddered. It was on
her, though she could not yet feel its weight as I had not yet released
it, that it might fall against the back of her neck. Tasdron then with a
key, removed his collar from her throat. I then dropped the chain about
her neck. The heavy black links were obdurate against the small, soft
hairs on the back or her slender, lovely neck. I then threw her hair
back again, in place. I then walked about her, and before her. She who
had once been Peggy Baxter, of Earth, then stood before me in the
apparatus of a Gorean coin girl."
Rogue of Gor, page 233
"It
is called the Street of the Writhing Slave. It is dark and narrow, and
not far from the wharves. It has its name from the fact that most
renters of, and dealers in, Coin Girls in Victoria, keep their kennels
on this street. The girls of the day, designated by a coiled whip
pressed against their left shoulder, wearing their neck chains, with the
attached bell and coin box, are sent into the streets in the late
afternoon and expected to return before the nineteenth ahn. And woe to
the girl who does not return with a jangling coin box on her neck chain!
Some girls, once designated, and locked in their accounterments,
kneeling, weeping, scratch even at the insides of the stout gates of
their masters' houses, hoping to be sent into the streets early, that
their chances of turning a profit for their master, and thus avoiding a
beating or torture, may be enhanced. Such a lenience, however, is seldom
shown to the girls, as it is against an agreement binding the
entrepreneurs engaged in this trade. Sometimes the girls are sent into
the streets with their hands braceleted behind their backs. Sometimes
they are sent into the streets with their small hands free, that they
may use them to please their master's customers. Sometimes a new girl is
sent into the streets on a leash, with an older girl, that she may
learn how a Coin Girl behaves."
Guardsman of Gor, pages 143 - 144
"The
girl had been half naked, in a brown rag. I had thought she had been
superb. To be sure Coin Girls are usually regarded as the lowest form of
Gorean street slave."
Guardsman of Gor, page 144
"I
continued to walk up the Street of the Writhing Slave. Such girls, now,
as it was late, past the nineteenth Ahn, would surely, at least for the
most part, be chained in their basement kennels, lying on their straw
mats, trying to sleep, clutching their thin blankets about their nude
bodies."
Guardsman of Gor, page 144
"I
regarded her, in the yellowish, flickering light of the tiny
tharlarion-oil lamp, late at night, on the rude stones of that dark,
narrow street in Victoria. She stood before me, small, slim, exquisite,
beautiful. Her binding-fiber-belted, wrap around tunic was brown, and of
clinging, thin rep-cloth; it was sleeveless and had a plunging
neckline; it was slave short. About her neck there was a chain. From the
chain there hung two objects; the first was a narrow, bronze bell,
flattish and tapering, with a flat top and ring; when she moved it would
sound, calling attention to her whereabouts; the second was a metal
coin box, which contained a slot for the deposition of coins; the coin
box was locked. I had not heard coins sound, from within the coin box.
Too, about her neck, under the chain, with its dangling articles, there
was a high, tight leather collar. Her leash, in the hands of the other
girl, was attached to a ring at the back of this collar. The leash, too,
was of leather, and long. It was coiled four or five times in the hands
of the other girl. More Gorean leashes are long. There are two
advantages to the long leash. It may be used, if one wishes, to bind the
slave, and its long end, if one wishes, may easily serve as a whipping
strap."
Guardsman of Gor, page 145
"The girl who held her leash then jerked twice on the leash. 'May I serve your pleasure, Master?' asked the leashed girl.
'I thought you were a Coin Girl,' I said.
'She is a Coin Girl,' said the girl who held her leash. Then she jerked the leash once, against the collar ring.
'I am a Coin Girl,' said the leashed girl, before me.
'Interest him,' said the other girl.
'I am yours for a tarsk bit, Master,' said the leashed girl.
'Open your tunic,' said the other girl.
The
girl then slipped loose the binding-fiber belt, letting it fall against
the two belt loops in the back. Then, with her left hand and her right
hand, parting the tunic, holding it open, she showed herself to me.
She was the most beautiful, and attractive, woman I had ever seen.
'It is my hope that I please Master,' she said.
'Beverly,' I said.
'She
has no name,' said the girl who held her leash, 'Her master has not yet
given her one. but once, it is true, that she was known as Beverly. For
that reason I suggest, if you are interested in her, that you give her,
for your use of her, another name.'
I regarded the beautiful girl. she trembled. she did not close her tunic."
Guardsman of Gor, page 146
" 'You are a female, and he is a man,' said the girl who held the leash. 'Interest him.'
'Please, Mistress,' begged the girl.
'Bite at his tunic, and lick at his legs and feet,' commanded the girl who held the leash.
Softly
then did the bell of the Coin Girl sound, and the chain and coin box on
her neck, as she who had once been Miss Henderson turned her head to
the side, and began, with her small, fine white teeth, to bite and
nibble at the hem of my tunic. I felt these small tugs, piteous and
delicate, and then she, with her lips, pressed the wet tunic against my
thigh and through the wet cloth, kissed me. She then, putting her head
down, began to lick and kiss at my legs and feet. She performed this
submission behavior for several minutes, piteously, desperately,
beseechingly, entreatingly. Then, at last, her head down, over my feet,
she whispered, begging, 'Please have me for a tarsk bit, Master. Please
have me for only a tarsk bit, Master.' "
Guardsman of Gor, page 147
"
'It is late,' said the girl with the leash. 'It is past the nineteenth
Ahn. That you should be out now is even against the agreements of the
renters of Coin Girls.'
Guardsman of Gor, page 149
"
'A Coin Girl,' said the girl with the leash, 'will struggle to please a
man as much for a tarsk bit, as a high paga slave for a thousand gold
pieces, to be paid by her master's customer for her use.'
'I see,' I said.
'The
level of skill in the Coin Girl, of course,' said the girl with the
leash, 'are commonly much lower.' This was true, of course. Yet it must
be mentioned that sometimes Coin Girls are extremely skillful. Too, it
is not unkown for a master to sometimes send even an equisitely trained,
beautiful high slave into the streets, usually as a joke or a
discipline. Such a girl knows that she must perform superbly. Some of
the men she falls in with may have been hired by her master, to report
back on the quality of her services."
Guardsman of Gor, pages 149 - 150
Dancers
bring high prices on Gor. Some slavers specialize in dancers, renting
them, and buying and selling them. Two such houses in Ar are those of
Kelsius and Aurelius. Some say that the finest dancers on Gor are found
in Ar; others say that they are found in Port Kar, and others that they
are in the Tahari, or in Tuna. These controversies, I think, are
fruitless. I have been in many cities and in each I have found marvelous
dancers. The matter is further complicated by the buying and selling of
girls and their shipment, as merchandise, among cities. A dancer has
usually had many masters; her fair throat has been graced by many
collars. In some cities if a dancer is not thought to have been
sufficiently pleasing she is thrown to the patrons of the tavern to be
torn to pieces or beaten. If she is thought to have been sufficiently
pleasing she may be auctioned, for the period of an Ahn, to the highest
bidder.

Display Slave
I
felt the collar on my throat. It was the collar of Ionicus. I was a work
slave. Yet, tonight, I had not served as a work slave, but a pleasure
slave. Too, Aulus had chained me at his stirrup. He had used me as a
display slave, to enhance his appearance, to add to the effect he might
make when he came into the presence of Pietro Vacchi. It is a use for
slaves. I was proud that I had been put at his stirrup. In such small
ways a slave may gather that she is exciting and beautiful....

'Yes, Master' she said. 'Constance is 1st girl,' I told her who had been the Lady Tina of Lydius.
'Yes, Master', said she who had been the Lady Tina of Lydius.
'Address her as Mistress,' I told the former free girl.
'Mistress,' said she who had been the former Lady Tina of Lydius, frightened, to Constance.
'Slave,' responded Constance to her, confirming the former free woman as second girl.
...the
two girls, the blond and the brunet, first girl and second girl, yet
both really new slaves, neither of whom had as yet even been branded."
Beasts of Gor, page 135
"She
was dressed, save for her bondage strings, in much the same way as most
of the women of the red hunters, bare-breasted, with high boots and
panties. Thistle, however, behind her, was naked, in a northern yoke and
on a leather leash.
'We are going to pick moss and grass,' she said.
'That is good,' I said. 'Why is Thistle yoked?'
'It pleased me, Master,' said Thimble, first girl.
'Was she insubordinate?' I asked. 'She said a sharp word to me,' said Thimble.
'Did you switch her, too?' I asked. 'Of course, Master,' said Thimble.
'Excellent,' I said. Discipline must be kept in the tent."
Beasts of Gor, pages 196 - 197
" 'How are her lessons in Gorean coming along?'
Sasi shrugged. 'I am teaching her as I can,' she said. 'Barbarians are so stupid.'
I
had had Sasi, at the invitation of Ulafi, spend several hours a day
tutoring the blond girl in Gorean. Sasi enjoyed this, standing over the
blond girl with a strap, striking her when she made mistakes. When she
had had a good session Ulafi would sometimes, when he thought of it,
throw her a bit of cake or pastry, which she would gratefully receive.
She would then kneel before Ulafi and kiss his feet, clutching the bit
of cake or pastry. 'Thank you, Master,' she would say. She would then
kneel before Sasi, her teacher, and offer her the bit of cake or pastry,
which Sasi would take, taking most of it and returning a portion of it
to her. 'Thank you, Mistress,' she would say, for Sasi was first girl.
She would then creep to her cage, and be locked within it. She would lie
curled up in it, a lovely, helpless slave, and try to make the bit of
cake or pastry last as long as possible."
Explorers of Gor, page 77
"It
was natural enough, in the circumstances, for Tafa to have addressed
Phoebe as 'Mistress.' As Tafa was currently subject to us, and Phoebe
was with us, this put Phoebe in a position of de facto priority to her.
For example, in a group of female slaves, for example, in a pleasure
gardens, a fortress or a tavern, there will usually be a girl appointed
First Girl. Indeed, if there is a large number of slaves, there are
sometimes hierarchies of 'first girls,' lower-level first girls
reporting to higher level first girls, and so on. The lower-level slaves
will commonly address their first girl as 'Mistress.' Thus, in some
situations, the same girl may be first girl to certain girls and be
subordinated herself to another, on a higher level, whom she will
address as 'Mistress.' Sometimes a hierarchy is formed in which girls
are ranked in such a manner that each must address the girls above her
as 'Mistress.' More commonly, it is only the lowest slave, usually the
newest slave, who must do this with all the others, whereas the others
will address only their first girl as 'Mistress,' and , of course, any
free woman whom they might, to their risk, or peril, encounter. "

Flute Girl
is not unusual at an inn. The proportions, then, would be one part paga
to five parts water. Commonly, at a paga tavern, the paga would be cut
less, or not cut at all. When wine is drunk with Gorean meals, at home,
incidentally, it is almost always diluted, mixed with water in a krater.
At a party of convivial supper the host, or elected feast master,
usually determines the proportions of water to wine. Unmixed wine, of
course, may be drunk, for example, at the parties of young men, at which
might appear dancers, flute slaves and such. Many Gorean wines, it
might be mentioned, if only by way of explanation, are very strong,
often having an alcohol content by volume of forty to fifty percent."

brand itself, in the case of the girls, is a rather graceful mark,
being the initial letter of the Gorean expression for slave in cursive
script. If a male is branded, the same initial is used, but in a block
letter."

"The
small, heavy lock on a girls slave collar, incidentally, may be of
several varieties, but almost all are cylinder locks, either of the pin
or disk variety. In a girls collar lock there would be six pins or six
disks, one each, it is said, for each letter of in the Gorean word for
female slave, kajira; the male slave, or kajirus, seldom has a locked
collar; normally a band of iron is simply hammered about his neck; often
he works in chains, usually with other male slaves."

seen; there are, incidentally, far fewer male slaves than female
slaves;"

Assassin of Gor
"Male
slaves, on Gor, are not particularly valuable, and do not command high
prices. Most labor is performed by free men. Most commonly, male slaves
are utilized on the cargo galleys, and in the mines, and on the great
farms. They also serve, frequently, as porters at the wharves. Still,
perhaps they are fortunate to have their lives, even at such a price.
Males captured in war, or in the seizure of cylinders or villages, or in
the pillaging of caravans, are commonly slain. The female is the prize
commodity in the Gorean slave markets. A high price for a male is a
silver tarsk, but even a plain wench, of low caste, provided she moves
well to the touch of the auctioneer's coiled whip, will bring as much,
or more. An exception to the low prices for males generally is that paid
for a certified woman's slave, a handsome male, silken clad, who has
been trained to tend a woman's compartments. Some of such bring a price
comparable to that brought by a girl, of average loveliness. Prices, of
course, tend to fluctuate with given markets and seasons. If there are
few such on the market in a given time, their prices will tend to be
proportionately higher. Such men tend to be sold in the women's
auctions, closed to free men, with the exception, of course, of the
auctioneer and such personnel. Some of such bring a price comparable to
that brought by a girl, of average loveliness."
Hunters of Gor, page 32
"The
litany and responses of the congregation were now completed and the
initiates, some twenty within the rail, began to sing in archaic Gorean.
I could make out little of the wording. There was an accompaniment by
sistrums. Portions of the hymn were taken up by four delicated boys,
standing outside the white on a raised platform. Their heads were shaved
and they wore robes resembling those of the initiates. Choirs of such
boys often sang in the great temples. They were young male slaves,
purchased by initiates, castrated by civil authorities and, in the
monasteries, trained in song. I supposed, to one versed in music, their
soprano voices were very beautiful. I did not care much for them. Here
in the far north, of course, in Kassau, to have any such boys, properly
trained in the archaic hymns, indicated some wealth. I did not think
such singers existed even in Lydius."
Marauders of Gor, page 42
"Slavery
also, of course, encompasses the ownership of male slaves, for which
there is less precedentdent in nature. Where males are concerned the
institution is primarily economic. The labor of male slave is useful and
cheap. It is applied in such places as the quarries, the roads, the
great farms, in certain types of cargo galleys, on the wharves, at the
walls of cities and in the forests. Male slaves are usually debtors or
criminals; sometimes they are captives, taken in actions against enemy
cities or facilities; sometimes they have merely accrued the displeasure
of powerful men or families; some slavers, working in gangs, specialize
in the capture of free men for work projects; they obtain a fee per
head on a contractual basis."
Beasts of Gor, pages 235 - 236
" 'You seem to have no male slaves,' I observed.
'They are now scarce in Schendi,' he said. 'Bila Huruma, Ubar of Lake Ushindi, uses them for work on his great canal.' "
Explorers of Gor, page 125
On her throat as well were wound the five coils of binding fiber, declaring her slave.
Of
the four girls only she did not wear silk, for she was only a Kettle
Slave. She wore a brief tunic only of rep-cloth, already stained with
grease and the spatterings of the kitchen. Her hair was not combed, and
there was dirt on her knees and face. Her face was tired, and strained,
and red, flushed from the heat of the cooking fires. Her hands had been
blistered from scrubbing and burned from the cooking, roughened and
reddened from the cleaning and the washing of the bowls and goblets. I
found great pleasure in seeing the proud Telima, who had been my
Mistress, as mere Kettle Slave.
Raiders of Gor, 9:112
Lure Girl
...Such
devices, of course, but without the authenticity and ultimate
surrender, are often resorted to by "lure girls," slaves who serve as
bait for captains who need crewmen, masters of work gangs, and such.
Such work can be very dangerous, given the astuteness of many Gorean
masters....

Male Slaves
"Gorean
men do not surrender their birthright as males, their rightful
dominance, their appropriate mastery. They do not choose to be dictated
to by females."

"It
was a great shame, I knew, for a female slave to even have to touch a
male slave, let alone to perform such an act as to address him as
master. Female slaves despise male slaves. They regard themselves, and
correctly, I suppose, as the rightful property only of free men and
women, masters and mistresses."
Fighting Slave of Gor, page 85
“Most
male slaves in the city were pampered silk slaves, owned by Gorean
women who had not yet learned their sex. Such slaves, when captured, if
not slain in disgust by the victors, were usually herded together like
slave girls, and chained for disposition in markets catering to their
form of merchandise, markets patronized largely by free women. To be
sure, there were virile male slaves in Ar. For example, many of the
fellows who attended to the great refuse vats usually kept at the foot
of the stairs in insulae were male slaves. Usually they worked under the
direct or indirect supervision of free men. Occasionally they would be
treated to a dram of paga or thrown a kettle girl for the evening.”
Magicians of Gor, page 71
“Sixteen tarsks was actually a high price to pay for a male silk slave. Most would go from four to six tarsks.”
Fighting Slave of Gor, page 173
“I
ran to the merchant and knelt before him. I pointed to the male slave.
“He looked upon me!” I cried. “He looked upon me!” “Have you permission
to speak?” He asked. “May a girl speak?” I asked, frightened. “Yes,” he
said. Emboldened then, I pointed again to the male slave. “He dared to
look upon me,” I said. I knew that male slaves are carefully supervised.
I knew it could be quite unpleasant for one of them to be caught
lookingupon a slave girl. To be caught looking upon a free woman could
mean death for them. “He looked upon me” I said, pointing to the male
slave. Surely he would be, at the least, whipped for his indiscretion.
The beauty of slaves girls was for free men, not for the slaves likes of
such as he.
“You are too good for him?" asked the merchant.
"Yes," I said. I then realized this was not the proper thing to say. But I had said it.
"You are both animals," he said.
"Yes Master," I said.
"But you are a female," he said.
"Yes Master," I said.
"And he," he said, "though slave is yet male."
"Yes Master," I whispered.
"And
is not the male animal the master of the female animal?" he asked. "Yes
Master," I said. I knew that male dominance was pervasive among
mammals, and that it was universal among primates. It can be frustrated
only by an extensive and complex conditioning program, one adequate,
over a period of years, to distort the order of nature.
"Do you find this slave of interest?" asked the master of the male slave. He shrugged. "She is small," he said.
I looked at him, frightened.
"But she is not without interest," he conceded.
"Do you think you can catch her?" asked the master.
"Of course," said the male slave.
I rose to my feet frightened. I began to back away.
"She is yours," said the master.”
Slave Girl of Gor, pages 345 and 346
“This
perhaps because many male silk slaves are chosen to be male silk slaves
not because they are weak or like women, but because they are not; it
is only that they are men, and often true men, who must serve women,
totally, in the same fashion that a slave female is expected to serve a
free master. To be sure, it is also true, and should be admitted in all
honesty, that many male silk slaves are rather feminine; some women
prefer this type, perhaps because they fear true men; from such a silk
slave they need not fear that they may suddenly be turned upon, and
tied, and taught to be women. Most women, however, after a time, find
this type of silk slave a banality and a bore; charm and wit can be
entertaining, but, in time, if not conjoined with intellect and true
masculine power, they are likely to wear thin.
The feminine type of
male silk slave, incidentally, for better or for worse, is seldom
selected for breeding purposes. Gorean slave breeders, perhaps benighted
in this respect, prefer what they take to be health to what they think
of as sickness, and what they take to be strength to what they deem
weakness.”
Savages of Gor, page 69
“There
are few male slaves with long pedigrees. Goreans, though recognizing
the legal and economic legitimacy of male slavery, do not regard it as
possessing the same biological sanction as attaches to female slavery.
The natural situation, in the mind of many Goreans is that master
set/slave relation is one which ideally exists between man and woman,
with the woman in the property position. Male slaves, from time to time,
can receive opportunities to win their freedom, though, to be sure,
usually in situations of high risk and great anger. Such opportunities
are never accorded to the female slave.”
Savages of Gor, page 70
"Male
slaves, on Gor, are not particularly valuable, and do not command high
A high price for a male is a
silver tarsk, but even a plain wench, of low caste, provided she moves
well to the touch of the auctioneer's coiled whip, will bring as much or
more.
Such men tend to be sold in women's auctions,
closed to free men, with the exception, of course, of the auctioneer and
such personnel."
Hunters of Gor, page 32
"The
brand itself, in the case of the girls, is a rather graceful mark,
being the initial letter of the Gorean expression for slave in cursive
script. If a male is branded, the same initial is used, but rendered in a
block letter."
Outlaw of Gor, page 187
“The
male slave, or Kajirus, seldom has a locked collar; normally a band of
iron is simply hammered about his neck; often he works in chains,
usually with other male slaves; in some cities, including Ar, an
unchained male slave is almost never seen; there are, incidentally, far
fewer male slaves than female slaves; a captured female is almost
invariably collared; a captured male is almost invariably put to the
sword.”
Assassins of Gor, page 51
"There
were only a few bosk visible, and they were milk bosk. The sheds I saw
would accommodate many more animals. I surmised, as is common in
Torvaldsland, most of the cattle had been driven higher into the
mountains, to graze wild during the summer, to be fetched back to the
shed only in the fall, with the coming of winter.
Men in the fields
wore short tunics of white wool; some carried hoes; their hair was close
cropped; about their throats had been hammered bands of black iron,
with a welded ring attached. They did not leave the fields; such a
departure, without permission, might mean their death; they were
thralls."

the minor blocks in the small houses, or even the minor blocks in the
Curulean, sales are conducted with a swiftness and dispatch that gives
the girl little time to interest and impress buyers, with the result
that even a very fine girl, to her indignation and shame, may be sold
for only an average price to an average buyer, who may use her for
little more than, as it is said, kettle and mat.

Paga Slave
I
noted that Tendite now, again, served in the tavern. I noted, too, that,
clad in yellow silk, belled on the left ankle, as another paga girl,
the dancer, she whom Thurnock had sported with, too, carried a vessel of
paga about. When she was not dancing, Sarpedon, I gathered, used her as
a common paga slave, not unlike the others. It was more economical, I
supposed, to do so.
"Greetings, Captain," said Thurnock.
"Greetings, Captain," said Rim.
Both men seemed well relaxed.
I
nodded with my head toward the dancer, now serving as a common paga
slave. I did not wish my men to be cheated. "How much did she cost you?"
I asked Thurnock.
"Since, when not dancing, she serves with the
common slaves," said Thurnock, "she came, like the others, for the price
of a cup of paga."
Hunters of Gor, 4:62
was a flash of slave bells at my side and a darkhaired, yellow-silked
girl, a paga girl, knelt beside us, where we sat cross-legged behind the
small table. 'Paga, Masters?'
'For three,' said I, expansively. 'And bring bread and bosk, and grapes.'
'Yes, Master.' "

"...four
paga slaves, in yellow silks, brought up from Laura, chained in a
longboat, would have arrived in my camp. It had been the main object of
Rim's journey to Laura to arrange for their rentals and delivery.
According to Rim they were beauties. I hoped that he was right, for
their master, Hesius, tavern owner in Laura, had not chared high rentals
nor excessive delivery charges. We would have them for a copper tarn
disk apiece, per day."

"
'There are paga slaves,' I said, 'who must please their master's
customers in his tavern. There are the girls who staff the public
kitchens and laundries. There are rent slaves, who may be rented to
anyone for any purpose, short of their injury or mutilation, unless
compensation be rendered to the master. There are state slaves who
maintain public compartments, and work in offices and warehouses. There
are girls in peasant villages, and girls on great farms, who cook and
carry water to the slave gangs. There are beauties who are purchased for
a man's pleasure gardens. There are other girls who work in the mills,
chained to their looms.'
She looked at me, frightened.
'Any of
these slaveries, or any of many others,' I said, 'could be yours. It
depends entirely, pretty Audrey, on who buys you, and what he wants.' "

Pierced Ear Slave
Another
custom, long practiced in the far south, below the Gorean equator, in
Turia, for example, is the piercing of the ears of the female slave;
this custom, though of long standing in the far south, did not begin to
spread with rapidity in the north until, again, it was introduced in Ar.
At a feast Marlenus, as a special treat for his high officers,
presented before them a dancer, a female slave, whose ears had been
pierced. She had worn, in her degradation, golden loops in her ears; she
had not been able, even, to finish her dance; at a sign from Marlenus
she had been seized, thrown to the tiles on which she had danced, and
raped by more than a hundred men. Ear piercing, from this time, had
begun to spread rapidly through the north, masters, and slavers, often
inflicting it on their girls. Interestingly, the piercing of the septum,
for the insertion of a nose ring, is regarded, generally, a great deal
more lightly by female slaves than the piercing of the ears. Perhaps
this is partly because, in the far south, the free women of the Wagon
Peoples wear nose rings; perhaps it is because the piercing does not
show; I do not know. The piercing of the ears, however, is regarded as
being the epitome of a slave girl's degradation. Any woman, it is said,
with pierced ears, is a slave girl.
Marauders of Gor, 8:113
Some
earth girls, of course, brought to Gor as slaves, as lovely meat for the
slave markets, did have their ears pierced. Some of them did not learn
for months why it was that they were treated with a roughness and
contempt far beyond that of their imbonded sisters, subjected to a
harsher authority and put beneath the rudest predations of a master's
lust. And yet the answer was simple. They were pierced ear girls. It is
said that the ear piercing of slaves, on Gor, originated in Turia.
Certainly it was practiced there. After the fall of Turia the custom
spread northward. It is now relatively common on Gor, for pleasure
slaves. Slavers have discovered that a pierced ear girl commands a
higher price.
Explorers of Gor, 5:96
Pleasure Slave
remembered, too, the girls in the last tavern, if it was a tavern,
lascivious in their dancing silks, pleasure slaves bred like animals for
passion. If there were natural slaves and natural free men, as the
Older Tarl had insisted, those girls were natural slaves. It was
impossible to conceive of them as other than they had been..."
Tarnsman of Gor, page 61
"The
tavern, like the Capacian Baths, was within fair walking distance of
the stadium. It was called, appropriately enough, the Green Tarn, and
the proprietor was a genial fellow, bald and red-nosed, called Kliimus.
The Pleasure Slaves who served wore green Pleasure Silk, and the tops of
the tables and the walls were also painted green; even the curtains on
the alcoves by one wall were green."
Assassin of Gor, page 167
"He
suddenly snapped His fingers and, in the swift double gesture of a
Gorean Master, pointed to a place on the dirt floor before Him, almost
simultaneously turning His hand, spreading His first and index finger,
pointing downwards.
I fled to Him and knelt before Him, my knees in the dirt, in the position of the pleasure slave, my head down, trembling."

Dancer of Gor, page 129
--Doreen, still a virgin about to be solld in the marketplace--
"I
knelt as I had been taught, and as the sort of slave I was, the sort of
slave I had first learned I was in Market of Semris, a pleasure
slave."
Dancer of Gor, page 186
'I scarcely supposed,' said I, 'that you would permit a White Silk girl to go alone on the streets of Ar.'
Cernus chuckled. 'Indeed not,' he said. 'The risk is too much, sometimes as much as ten gold pieces.'"
" 'But,' had said Ute, 'if a man seizes you, you are not to yield yourself to him, for you are white silk.'
A flash of irritation passed through me. 'I am charged with the protection of my market value?' I asked, ironically.
'Yes,' said Ute, matter-of-factly. 'Though I, if I were a man, would pay more for a red-silk girl.'
'I must do nothing,' I said, 'to diminish the investment of Rask of Treve?'
'That is correct,' said Ute.
'What if I am simply seized, and my attacker is not prepared to listen to reason?' I asked.
Ute laughted. It was the first time I had seen her laugh in the camp. I was pleased I had made her laugh.
'Cry out,' said Ute, 'and the others will take you from him and get him a red-silk girl.'
'All right,' I had said."
Captive of Gor, pages 306 - 307
"The man whom I had served wine reached clumsily for me.
'I am white silk!' I cried, shrinking back.
'Wine!' cried the other man.
I tried to rise, but the man's hand was knotted in the silk. If I moved I would strip myself.
Another
girl, on her knees, reaching for him, holding his head, insinuated
herself between us. 'I am red silk,' she murmured. 'Touch me! Touch me!'
His hands left my silk and I darted away."
Captive of Gor, pages 324 - 325
"The red silk would diminish suspicion. A red-silked girl in a Gorean fortress is a not uncommon sight."
Beasts of Gor, page 406
" 'There is a stain on your thigh,' I said.
'My Master took my virginity,' she said.
'You are now a red-silk girl,' I said.
'Yes, Master,' she said, 'I am now a red-silk girl.'
'Whos red-silk girl?' I asked.
'Your red-silk girl, Master,' she said."
"
'Tela, when captured,' he said, indicating a blonde, 'begged to be kept
in white silk.' He laughed. 'After throwing her to a crew, for their
pleasure, we put her, as she had asked, in white silk.'
'Amusing,' I said.
'She now often begs for red silk,' he said."
Rogue of Gor, page 197
"
'To be sure,' I said, ' "white" in the context of "white-silk girl"
tends less to suggest purity and innocence to the Gorean than ignorance,
naivety, and a lack of experience. One expects a red-silk girl, for
example, to not only be able to find her way about the furs, but,
subject to the whip, owned and dominated, perhaps chained, to prove
herself a sensuous treasure within them."
Savages of Gor, page 205
"Similarly,
the expression 'red-silk,' in Gorean, tends to be used as a category in
slaving, and also, outside of the slaving context, as an expression in
vulgar discourse, indicating that the woman is no longer a virgin, or,
as the Goreans say, at least vulgarly of slaves, that her body has been
opened by men. Its contrasting term is 'white-silk,' usually used of
slaves who are still virgins, or, equivalently, slaves whose bodies have
not yet been opened by men.
Needless to say, slaves seldom spend a
great deal of time in the 'white-silk' category. It is common not to
dally in initiating a slave into the realities of her condition."
Blood Brothers of Gor, page 472
"The
buyers were also informed that I was 'glana' or a virgin. The
correlated term is 'metaglana,' used to designate the state to which the
glana state looks forward, or that which it is regarded as
anticipating. Though the word was not used of me I was also
'profalarina', which term term designates the state preceding, and
anticipating, that of 'falarina', the state Goreans seem to think of as
that of being a full woman, or, at least, as those of Earth might think
of it, one who certainly is no longer a virgin. In both terms, 'glana'
and 'profalarina,' incidentally, it seems that the states they designate
are regarded as immature or transitory, state to be succeeded by more
fully developed, superior states, those of 'metaglana' or 'falarina'.
Among slaves, not free women, these things are sometimes spoken of along
the lines as to whether or not the girl as been 'opened' for the uses
of men. Other common terms, used generally of slaves, are 'white silk'
and 'red silk', for girls who have not yet been opened, or have been
opened, for the uses of men, respectively."
Dancer of Gor, page 128
"I had been opened, I thought, I was now 'red silk!'"
Dancer of Gor, page 204
"Then
I felt him remove the white-silk ribbon from my collar. In a moment he
had fastened something else there, in its place, doubtless another
ribbon, doubtless the red-silk ribbon which had been given to him
earlier by Mirus. He jerked it down on the collar, snugly."
Dancer of Gor, page 209
Seduction Slave
"A seduction slave?" she wept.
"Yes," he said. "He has much increased my stock of slaves."
She tore at the net, in tears, but helpless.
"Had
you, and your predecessors, not been so secretive, so much concerned to
conceal your affairs with a slave, Milo’s utility as a seduction slave
would have doubtless been much diminished by now. On the other hand, the
concern for your reputation and such, so natural in you free women,
almost guarantees the repeatability, and continued success, of these
small pleasant projects."
Magicians of Gor, page 8
'Look!' cried Pudding. 'a silk girl!' The expression 'silk girl' is
used, often, among bond-maids of the north, to refer to their
counterparts in the south. the expression reflects their belief that
such girls are spoiled, excessively pampered, indulged and coddled,
sleek pets, who have little to do but adorn themselves with cosmetics
and await their Masters, cuddled cutely, on plush, scarlet coverlets,
fringed with gold. there is some envy in this charge, I think. more
literally, the expression tends to be based on the fact that the brief
slave tunic of the south, the single garment permitted the female slave,
is often of silk. southern girls, incidentally, in my opinion, though
scarcely worked as their northern sisters in bondage, a function of the
economic distinction between the farm and city, are often worked, and
worked hard, particularly if they have not pleased their Masters."
Marauders of Gor, page 144
is perhaps because many male silk slaves are chosen to be male silk

Thralls

with a welded ring attached. They did not leave the fields; such a

thralls."
Marauders of Gor, page 82
“Bond-maid!”
called he. She stopped, and turned. “Do you wish to go to the whipping
post ?” he asked. This is a stout post, outside the hall, of peeled
wood, with an iron ring near the top, to which the wrists of a
bond-maid, crossed, are lashed over her head. Near the bosk shed there
is a similar post, with a higher ring, used for thralls."
Marauders of Gor, page 103
“Sometimes,” said he, “to discipline a bond-maid, she is hurled naked among the thralls.”
Marauders of Gor, page 89
"Air,
by means of a small bellows, pumped by a thrall boy, in white wool,
collared, hair cropped, was forced through a tube in the bottom of each.
The air above the canisters shook with heat.
To one side, tall,
broad-shouldered, stood a young male thrall, in the thrall tunic of
white wool, his hair cropped short, an iron collar on his throat."
Marauders of Gor, page 86
"Male thralls are chained for the night in the bosk sheds; bondmaids are kept in the hall, for the pleasure of the free men."
Marauders of Gor, page 99
“Thank
you, my Jarl,” said the boy. The boy, unlike the adult male thralls,
was not chained at night in the bosk shed. Ivar was fond of him. He
slept, chained, in the kitchen."
Marauders of Gor, page 132
"Then,
with the brazenness of a bond-maid, she, Thyri, who had been the fine
young lady of Kassau, threw her kirtle up over her hips and, leaning
forward, spit furiously at the thrall.
He leaped toward her but
Ottar was even quicker. He struck Wulfstan, the thrall, Tarsk, behind
the back of his neck with the handle of his ax. Wulfstan fell stunned.
In an instant Ottar had bound the young man's hands before his body. He
then jerked him to his knees by the iron collar.
“You have seen what
your ax can do to posts,” said he to me, “now let us see what it can do
to the body of a man.” He then threw the young thrall to his feet,
holding him by the collar, his back to me. The spine, of course, would
be immediately severed; moreover, part of the ax will, if the blow be
powerful, emerge from the abdomen. It takes, however, more than one blow
to cut a body, that of a man, in two. To strike more than twice,
however, is regarded as clumsiness. The young man stood, numbly, caught.
Thyri, her kirtle down, shrank back, her hand before her mouth.
“You have seen,” said Ottar, to the Forkbeard, “that he has been bold with a bond-maid, the property of free men.”
“Thralls and bond-maids, sometimes,” said I, “banter.”
“He
would have put his hands upon her,” said Ottar. That seemed true, and
was surely more serious. Bond-maids were, after all, the property of
free men. It was not permitted for a thrall to touch them."
Marauders of Gor, page 104
"Behind
the Forkbeard were myself, his men, those bond-maids who had
accompanied us, and the thrall, Tarsk, who had been bought along, should
the Forkbeard have made any heavy purchases.
“My Jarl,” said Thyri.
“Yes,” said the Forkbeard.
“Should
this thrall,” she asked, indicating Tarsk, once Wulfstan of Kassau, “be
permitted to look upon the beauty of the bond-maids?”
“What do you mean?” asked Ivar Forkbeard.
“He is, after all,” said Thyri, “only a thrall.”
I
wondered that she would deny the young man this pleasure. I recalled
that she had said she hated him. I, personally, had no objection to his
presence in the shed. Thralls, I expected, had few pleasures. It might
have been more than a year since he had been permitted a female."
Marauders of Gor, pages 158 & 159
"It
had been decided, however, a generation ago, by one of the rare meetings
of the high council of rune-priests, attended by the high rune-priests
of each district, that thralls should no longer be sacrificed; this was
not defended, however, on grounds of the advance of civilization, or
such, but rather on the grounds that thralls, like urts and tiny
six-toed tharlarion, were not objects worthy of sacrifice; there had
been a famine and many thralls had been sacrificed; in spite of this the
famine had not abated for more than four growing seasons. this period,
too, incidentally, was noted for the large number of raids to the south,
often involving entire fleets from Torvaldsland; it had been further
speculated that the gods had no need of thralls, or, if they did, they
might supply this need themselves, or make this need known through
suitable signs; no signs, however, luckily for thralls, were
forthcoming; this was taken as a vindication of the judgment of the high
council of rune-priests; after the council, the status of rune-priests
had risen in Torvaldsland; this may also have had something to do with
the fact that the famine, finally, after four seasons, abated; the
status of the thrall, correspondingly, however, such as it was,
declined; he was now regarded as much in the same category with the urts
that one clubs in the Sa-Tarna sheds, or are pursued by small pet
sleen, kept there for that purpose, or with the tiny, six-toed rock
tharlarion of southern Torvaldsland, favored for their legs and tails,
which are speared by children. If the thrall had been nothing in
Torvaldsland before, he was now less than nothing; his status was now,
in effect, that of the southern, male work slave, found often in the
quarries and mines, and, chained, on the great farms. He, a despised
animal, must obey instantly and perfectly, or be subject to immediate
slaughter. The Forkbeard had bought one thrall with him, the young man,
Tarsk, who, even now, followed in the retinue of the Forkbeard; it was
thought that if the Forkbeard should purchase a crate of sleen fur or a
chest of bog iron the young man, on his shoulders, might then bear it
back to our tent, pitched among other tents, at the thing."
Marauders of Gor, page 152
“I may wish to use you to breed thralls,” he said. “You must be healthy for the farm.”
Marauders of Gor, page 162
Tower Slave
position of the tower slave, in most cities, is very similar to that of
the pleasure slave. The major difference is that the tower slave, whose
duties are commonly, primarily, domestic, kneels with her knees in a
closed position, whereas the pleasure slave, in a symbolic recognition
of the fuller nature of her bondage, and its most significant aspects,
kneels with them in open position. The tower slave, of course, like any
other slave, is fully at the disposal of the master, in any and every
way. The distinction between the tower slave and the pleasure slave,
though honored in some markets, some specializing in girls sold
primarily for housekeeping purposes and others in girls sold primarily
for the pleasures of men, is not really a hard and fast distinction; it
is not absolute; indeed, it can even be transitory. A girl who is
ordered to open her knees, or who finds them kicked apart, for example,
realizes that she has now become a pleasure slave. Similarly a girl in
one context may function as one kind of slave and in another context, as
another sort. Serving supper to a young man and his mother, for
example, the girl may appear merely efficient and deferential. She
kneels nearby, her knees closed. After the mother departs, however, she
may kneel differently before the young man, with her knees open, his."

"The
Whip Slave, another of the slaves of Tharna, but one in charge of the
chain, was pleased with his task. Though he might never see the light of
the sun, yet it was he who held the whip, he who was Ubar in this
macabre dungeon.
There was pleasure in the eyes of the Whip Slave
as he enjoyed the tormenting moment of suspense which his uplifted whip
inflicted on the ragged, hungry slaves. The whip cracked. 'Feed!' he
shouted."
Outlaw of Gor, page 169
'I scarcely supposed,' said I, 'that you would permit a White Silk girl to go alone on the streets of Ar.'
Cernus chuckled. 'Indeed not,' he said. 'The risk is too much, sometimes as much as ten gold pieces.'"
Assassin of Gor, page 45
"The
meal was served by slave girls in white tunics, each wearing a
white-enameled collar. These would be girls in training, some of them
perhaps White Silk Girls, being accustomed to the routines and
techniques of serving table."
Assassin of Gor, page 88
"One
of them carried a large pitcher of the diluted Ka-la-na wine and
stepped behind us, climbing the two steps to the broad wooden dais on
which our tables were set. She bent over my left shoulder woodenly, her
body stiff. 'Wine, Master?' she asked.
'She-sleen,' hissed Ho-Tu. 'How is it that you first serve wine to a strange man at the table of your master?'
'Forgive Lana,' said she, tears springing to her eyes.
'You belong in the iron pens,' said Ho-Tu.
'He frightens me,' she wept. 'He is of the black caste.'
'Serve him wine,' said he, 'or you will be stripped and thrown into a pen of male slaves.'
The
girl turned and withdrew, then approached again, climbing the stairs,
delicately, as though timidly, head down. Then she leaned forward,
bending her knees slightly, her body graceful, and spoke, her voice a
whisper in my ear, an invitation, 'Wine, Master?' as though offering not
wine, but herself. In a large house, with various slave girls, it is
thought only an act of courtesy on the part of a host to permit a guest
the use of one of the girls for the evening. Each of the girls
considered eligible for this service, at one time or another during the
evening, will approach the guest and offer him wine. His choice is
indicated by the one from whom he accepts wine.
I looked at the girl. Her eyes met mine, softly. Her lips were slightly parted. 'Wine, Master?' she asked.
'Yes,' I said, 'I will have wine.'
She
poured the diluted wine into my cup, bowed her head and with a shy
smile, backed gracefully down the stairs behind me, then turned and
hurried away.
'Of course,' said Ho-Tu, 'you may not have her tonight, for she is White Silk.'
'I understand,' I said."
Assassin of Gor, pages 88 - 89
"....I
passed several chained slave girls kneeling on a stone tier. They were
doubtless girls in training, and reasonably well advanced in training.
They had been brought to see the races, that they might be pleased and
stimulated, that they might return to their training refreshed and
recreated. They were clearly enjoying themselves, and some were making
bets, the stakes being pleasure beads from the contents of the jewelry
and cosmetic box allotted to each, usually kept in her cell. They were
fastened together wrist to wrist by slave bracelets. At each end of the
line there was a guard. The slaves wore light, hooded cloaks, the length
of which, when they stood, would fall slightly above the hem of their
brief slave livery. The garments had rather large sleeves and fastened
with a cord under the chin. It protected them from the sun to some
extent but even more from the glances of the curious. Some of the girls,
judging by the stripes on the hoods and cloaks were White Silk, and
others Red Silk. The White Silk Girls, of course, having been released
from the house, would have been placed in locked, iron belts."
Assassin of Gor, page 147
"Sura
turned to Ho-To. 'The Tuchuk girl,' she said, 'keeps quarters with the
Assassin. I do not object. Take the others to cells of Red Silk.'
'They are White Silk,' said Ho-To.
Sura laughed. 'Very well,' she said, to cells of White Silk. Feed them well.' "
Assassin of Gor, page 154
"I pressed against the bars putting my hands through, trying to touch him.
He came back to the bars and took my hands, holding me against the bars.
'When will you use me?' I asked.
'You are white silk,' he had said, and turned away.
I
had moaned, leaning against the bars, lonely. I was filled with strange
sensations. The three moons were bright in the sky. I shook the bars,
but I was locked within. I saw him disappear in the darkness, toward the
wagons. I held the bars, and pressed my cheek against them, and wept."
Captive of Gor, pages 106 - 107
" 'And here,' said Ute, 'lest the ardor of the men become too strong, this!'
The girls laughted. She took a white, silken ribbon and wrapped it five times about the collar, not tying it.
I had been marked white silk.
Inge
and Rena laughted. 'Do not laugh,' smiled Ute, 'for you, too, will be
so marked, lest Raf and Pron, huntsmen of Treve, in a careless moment,
devour my two other white-silk pretties.'"
Captive of Gor, page 323
"He turned my head from side to side, looking at the earrings. He was drunk, and I could tell that he was aroused.
'More wine,' he said.
I again filled the cup.
'Your ears are pierced,' he said, shaking his head, trying to clear his vision.
'If it please Master,' I whispered. 'If it please Master.'
'Wine!' cried another man.
I tried to rise.
The man whom I had served wine reached clumsily for me.
"She trembled. I kissed her upon the lips. Her body, that of a white-silk girl, fresh to the collar, was terribly frightened."
Hunters of Gor, page 95
" 'I am a virgin,' she said.
'You are white-silk,' I said.
'Please do not use that vulgar expression of me,' she begged.
'Do not fear,' I said, 'it will soon be inappropriate.' "
Beasts of Gor, page 120
" 'You are a pretty slave, Evelyn,' I said.
'Thank you Master,' she said.
'Are you White Silk?' I asked.
'I am virgin,' she said.
'Then you are White Silk,' I said."
Explorers of Gor, page 172
"We
were all naked. It was easier to tell, however, which of us were
virgins, for the virgins, like myself, wore the 'iron belt.' Its
horizontal position, like an iron oval, would close about my waist, and
the vertical position, like a 'U', hinged in front to the horizontal
position, flattened, shaped and slotted at its center, would swing up
between my legs and there its flattened, laterally slotted end, like a
hasp, would be placed over the staple on the left side of the oval ring,
the right side, already over this staple, secured there, behind my
back, with a heavy, dangling padlock. There was little danger I would be
penetrated while wearing this device."
Dancer of Gor, pages 64 - 65
"The
buyers were also informed that I was 'glana' or a virgin. The
correlated term is 'metaglana,' used to designate the state to which the
glana state looks forward, or that which it is regarded as
anticipating.
"Then
I felt him remove the white-silk ribbon from my collar. In a moment he
had fastened something else there, in its place, doubtless another
ribbon, doubtless the red-silk ribbon which had been given to him
earlier by Mirus. He jerked it down on the collar, snugly."

her forehead, tying back her dark hair, was a strip of rep cloth,
brown, of the same material as the work tunic. I knew this meant she had
authority among the girls. Ena was high girl in the camp, but I
suspected that Ute might be first among the work slaves."
Captive of Gor, page 285
"I looked up at Ute. 'You wear the Kajira talmit,' I said.
'The
first girl of the work slaves,' said Ute, 'had been sold shortly before
my capture. There had been dissensions, factions, among the girls, each
wanting one of their own party to be first girl. I was new. I had no
allegiances. Rask of Treve, by his will, and because, for some reason,
he trusted me, set me above them all.' "

slaves. The tunics of work slaves are usually brown or gray."
